What are some important points to know about applying to universities and colleges in California?
Well, that’s a good question! While applying to universities (colleges) across the US can be similar, there are a few key points to watch out for when writing your personal admissions essays and supplemental essays for California:
⦁ Not all colleges in California have the same application systems or deadlines as most US colleges
⦁ The University of California has Personal Insight Questions instead of the Common App Personal Statement or “supplemental” admissions essay questions
⦁ Other university applications in California (such as the University of Southern California) do not follow this format and do, indeed, use the Common App!
So, if you’re overwhelmed with tracking all the deadlines and ensuring you haven’t missed any key details, a college admissions counselor may be the right fit to help guide you.
What are California’s application deadlines?
Of course, college application deadlines vary every year and are subject to change. However, generally the University of California’s undergraduate college applications deadline is in late November, or the first couple days of December. Keep in mind that this is quite a bit earlier than most Regular Decision college admissions deadlines, which tend to be in late December or early January.
Does California accept the Common Application?
The University of California does not accept the Common Application for undergraduate students and instead, has their own questions called Personal Insight Questions. You need to choose 4 of the short essay prompts listed. However, some universities in California do accept the Common Application, so it’s important to check the admissions requirements for each one.
